Easter Sunday, the Three Women, and Where’s Mary
Who are these three women at the tomb of Christ during the Easter Sunday?
Mark 16:1-2: “And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought sweet spices, that coming, they might anoint Jesus. And very early in the morning, the first day of the week, they come to the sepulchre, the sun being now risen.”
These women, based on Mark 16:1-2, were:
- Mary Magdalene
- Mary, mother of James
- Salome
How great really the faith of these women that they believe that the Lord resurrected from the dead though they didn’t see the body. Unlike Thomas on today’s Sunday Gospel.
I was thinking also, where was Mary, mother of Jesus, at this time? For sure if I am a son or daughter, I will go to first on my family or specifically looking for our mother. Thus very great chance is Jesus went first to Mary, his mother, at these time. Also on Mary’s end, she already believed from the start that her son will be resurrected on the 3rd day yet it was painful really to see your son bearing the pain and suffering as it also pierces her heart the same pain she receives. For sure, she ponders all these things in her heart and always seeking for the Lord’s will. One thing I love about Mary is her silence and how she ponder things in her heart.
The role of women on this Easter time was so important. They are also a model of faith, though it may be hidden but the actions of these women have encourages us that blessed are those who didn’t see but believed. In case that we are on the brink losing our faith or we are that “to see is to believe” person, reflecting the story on these 3 women as they visited the tomb may help us to be more faithful to God.
