It Ends with Us – Book Review
As per the title, I thought this is really heartbreaking. But I thought wrong, this is a depressing, ugly, heartbreaking one ?
This is the second novel I read written by Colleen Hoover. From the dedication of the book alone, you can tell how the book will go. I love the mention of Ellen Degeneres in this book too (if you read you would know).
The subject tackled in the book alone is truly sensitive but in your heart, you know this story needs to be told for everyone to know. Glad Colleen and her Mother spoken their truths. I’ve been engrossed for this book for 4 nights (WFH in between) – never had enough sleep though. My usual 10 pm sleep turns to 12mn.
I appreciate how the need for communication in a relationship was portrayed in this novel – naked truths, fulfilled promises, and ask before actions. Sometimes we need to pause and think about our actions before anger took over us.
I am thankful my father is not abusive, I couldn’t imagine living in the same home-like Lily. My mother is almost identical to Lily’s mother, she’s strong and independent. Growing up I see my mother making money on her own (but stays as a housewife) – sari-sari store and tailoring shop. I can’t deny she does her craft very well. Even after now, clients are still patronizing her and would prefer for her magic hands but she needs to decline as she is always away from our hometown.
‘We are not bad people sometimes we are just people who do bad things.’ That is one of the wisdom you can always remember back on from the book. I guess it still also relates to my words to live by ‘seek to understand than to be understood’. We can always hope for people to change but we can also change our own minds for ourselves. This just taught me understanding on the next level.
I won’t spill what happens at the end but I guess it was the universe telling them its time and we know that timing is always everything.
I recommend this to individuals who are in situations they think cannot be changed, physical abuse, living under an abuser guardian. This might give you prespective plus the real life story reference from notes from the Author is also notable.
